Orange County Animal Services
Helping Paws' main volunteer effort since our inception has been working with Orange County Animal Services. This state-of-the-art facility strives to meet the needs of Orange County residents by working with volunteers and other partners to deliver cost-effective and integrated sheltering and animal control services that ensure the health, safety and well being of humans, pets and the community as a whole. Helping Paws members volunteer to clean kennels, walk dogs, socialize cats, and a host of other activities. One of our most popular volunteer opportunities is Outreach, a weekend adoption event series, which is primarily student maintained.
All volunteers for Orange County Animal Services must attend a training session and an orientation session prior to volunteering at the facility. Helping Paws members are able to attend a single joint training and orientation session on the UNC campus. This is held at least once a semester on dates to be determined.

Bayou Rescue
Bayou Rescue formed in response to Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Since then, They've responded to a variety of incidents, big and small, around the country and around the corner. They've worked on hoarding cases, hurricane responses, apartment fires and plenty more. They've also responded when no disaster is present at all through their outreach efforts to educate the community about the importance of having an emergency plan in place that includes pets. All of their work is made possible by generous donations of time and money from people like you.
Carolina Pet Rescue
Another organization that Helping Paws has more recently begun to work with is Carolina Pet Rescue, an organization that focuses its efforts on helping small and exotic pets like rabbits, ferrets, rodents, reptiles, and birds. The mission of Carolina Pet Rescue is to provide foster homes, medical care, and adoption for homeless pets; provide sanctuary to animals deemed unadoptable due to physical or behavioral limitations; and provide education on all of the species we care for. Helping Paws members volunteer at Carolina Pet Rescue once weekly to help clean cages and socialize animals.
